The tenth to seventeenth digits can also contain additional information such as features or options installed in the vehicle.

The last six digits of the VIN code are a unique serial number that is unique to the car or truck. The last digit is also the check number, and the remaining numbers are transliterated into numbers. For example the first digit receives an eight value; then each subsequent digit increases by one until it reaches nine at seventh digit, and then changes to two. Then the whole VIN will be converted back to its original form by multiplying each weight by 11. If the result is the same as the check number then the VIN will be valid.
